Creativity is
one of the most important skills to succeed in life. Therefore, parents and
teachers are required to help the kids in developing this skill from an early
age. Increasing the child ability to create and think out of the box will help
him/her in learning other different languages. Today, technology makes it much
easier to develop the creativity skill, especially for children. Last week in
“Integrating Technology and Literacy” class, we were introduced to an
interesting technological tool that helps parents and teachers in improving the
kids’ creativity. It is the Story Patch website which also provided as an app
on the iPods. I spent some time checking the StoryPatch.com, which was a very
interesting website. The application allows the kids to tell stories in a
creative, and intuitive fun way. In term of using, Story Patch is a very
flexible tool that is easy to use because there is a short demo that intrudes
the app and how to use it.
In addition, I found that Story Patch is a great tool for the second-grade teachers because they are going to be able to apply the following standards in a lesson plan using the Story Patch app:
Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English
capitalization, punctuation, and spelling when writing.
Capitalize holidays,
product names, and geographic names.
Generalize learned spelling
patterns when writing words (e.g., cage → badge; boy → boil).
Consult reference
materials, including beginning dictionaries, as needed to check and correct
spellings.
Determine or clarify the meaning of unknown and multiple-meaning
words and phrases based on grade 2 reading and content, choosing flexibly from
an array of strategies.
Use sentence-level context
as a clue to the meaning of a word or phrase.
Determine the meaning of
the new word formed when a known prefix is added to a known word (e.g., happy/unhappy,
tell/retell).
Story Patch app or website is a great
method to improve the kids abilities and allow them to practice the language in
a creative way. I highly recommend StoryPatch.com for teachers and
parents.
