StoryBird.com

Another tool introduced to us last week is the Story Bird website, which is another technological tool that helps in developing the writing skill. I truly like Story Bird website because the pictures are awesome and appear very unique. Also, I like how each story has a special theme like the cartoons or the black and white movies. Moreover, there is an option that allows printing the story to look like a short story book. I could see my self-using this website in a writing activity for Grade-Five students and by the end of the semester, I could make a small bookstore for my kids to share their creativity in writing with the school. Additionally, I think that Story Bird is an enjoyable tool to play with not only for students but also for teachers. For example, a teacher may teach the students a history lesson or a science lesson using Story Bird to make the lesson more interested. Using StoryBird is very flexible, click on create then you will have many options whether to choose from the hundreds of themes and edited it or just start from the beginning and use your creativity. There are many standards that might be supported by using the StoryBird.com, such as:

Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, descriptive details, and clear event sequences.
Orient the reader by establishing a situation and introducing a narrator and/or characters; organize an event sequence that unfolds naturally.
Use narrative techniques, such as dialogue, description, and pacing, to develop experiences and events or show the responses of characters to situations.
Use a variety of transitional words, phrases, and clauses to manage the sequence of events.
Use concrete words and phrases and sensory details to convey experiences and events precisely.
Provide a conclusion that follows from the narrated experiences or events.

Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development and organization are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience. (Grade-specific expectations for writing types are defined in standards 1-3 above.)

With guidance and support from peers and adults, develop and strengthen writing as needed by planning, revising, editing, rewriting, or trying a new approach. (Editing for conventions should demonstrate command of Language standards 1-3 up to and including grade 5 here.)

With some guidance and support from adults, use technology, including the Internet, to produce and publish writing as well as to interact and collaborate with others; demonstrate sufficient command of keyboarding skills to type a minimum of two pages in a single sitting.

StoryBird.com is one of the best website that support the development in writing skill. I would recommend it for all teachers.
