My Digital Storytelling Proposal

Now that I have a good grasp on how my storytelling is going to be. I choose to use the Popplet, which is the technological tool I talked about in the previous blog, in organizing the graphic proposal of my storytelling. I enjoyed using Popplet in analyzing the plot of my story. As a first draft of the story using Popplet was very useful because it helps me in going through the different stages in the story and to look closely at the details. As a teacher for English language learners (ELLs), I decided to set the goal of my story to help ELLs in learning new vocabulary. Also, as I mentioned before in the validity of the learning through playing, I chose to make the story a part of the learning process of my kids and an interactive activity at the same time. So, kids are going to learn then apply what they learn in a real class. My story supports the language standards for Kindergarten level, such as:

·      CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.L.K.4
Determine or clarify the meaning of unknown and multiple-meaning words and phrases based on kindergarten reading and content.
Identify new meanings for familiar words and apply them accurately (e.g., knowing duck is a bird and learning the verb to duck).
Use the most frequently occurring inflections and affixes (e.g., -ed, -s, re-, un-, pre-, -ful, -less) as a clue to the meaning of an unknown word.

With guidance and support from adults, explore word relationships and nuances in word meanings.
Sort common objects into categories (e.g., shapes, foods) to gain a sense of the concepts the categories represent.
Demonstrate understanding of frequently occurring verbs and adjectives by relating them to their opposites (antonyms).
Identify real-life connections between words and their use (e.g., note places at school that are colorful).
Distinguish shades of meaning among verbs describing the same general action (e.g., walk, march, strut, prance) by acting out the meanings.

My proposal is related to one of the technique in teaching that I want to use it in a different way. The story focuses on developing the kids understanding of the meaning of words and differentiating between two objects with very similar features. As in the proposal, PowToon is the digital tool I planned to use in setting my storytelling to engage the kids in the teaching process. Also, I will add by the end of the story an open question to allow the kids to think in a way to differentiate between two objects and take the design.

  1. Great mind map! I can see your thinking behind the project. One of my favorite units with students has always been Procedural Texts... maybe it's because I love to cook!
