DK FindOut?!
DK FindOut is a
great visual source that includes diagrams and an encyclopedia
of images for elementary level in science and many other topics like
nature, math, and transportation. Additionally, it includes a diversity of
stories and books for all grade levels. It is a website that has been launched
in February 2015 for free.
DK FindOut is a richly visual interactive resource
with supported games. To start using it go to https://www.dkfindout.com/us/
choose the language and search for the topic you are interested in and enjoy
learning in a creative interactive way. It is one of the digital literacy
sources that could be applied to two main standards, first,
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.L.3.4.D: Use glossaries or beginning dictionaries, both print
and digital, to determine or clarify the precise meaning of key words and
phrases. There are many vocabularies related to many topics with pictures that
clarify the meaning of it. Second, CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.3.7: Conduct short
research projects that build knowledge about a topic. Also,
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.3.8: Recall information from experiences or gather
information from print and digital sources; take brief notes on sources and
sort evidence into provided categories. DK FindOut is a recommended source for
research data.
I highly
recommend it because it helps the kids to increase their ability to look for
the data and science fact and see it at the same time, which considered very
helpful for English Language Learners (ELLs). Moreover, it is helpful for the
teacher because it provides a sample of lesson plans and how might a teacher
use it in class activities.
I think it is
unique because there are many successful popular books available for free.
Also, it supports developing the student comprehension skill like
pictures.
